Managing risk and resilience in the supply chain

David Kaye

This book is a very useful handbook for an area of business, the supply chain, that is in much need of advice and help when it comes to managing risk and dealing with business continuity issues.  The book provides a wealth of real business related information, situations and scenarios that organisations should find helpful in their own business.

One thing that makes business and technical books come alive is in the use of real-life case studies and there is no shortage of case studies in this book.  There is also a generous number of quotes and good advice placed in boxes, which always makes a book appealing and user-friendly.

The language, style and presentation of the subject matter is very good and professional. The BIA template is useful but would be more useful if provided in electronic form.

In the field on certification and standards there are a few things missing from the book, the role of UKAS and their accreditation of the certification process of management systems.  I understand that UKAS are engaged in development work relating to BS 25999 certifications.

The book will of course need to be revised and updated over a period of time to take account of the continuous developments in the business environment, continuous stream of new legislation and developments in the standards world.

Well done to the author for creating such an interesting and practical book.
