Security system self-installation "can be challenging"

11 May 2011

Businesses choosing to install security systems could find the process "challenging", one expert asserts.

According to Adrian Platts of the Business Crime Reduction Centre (BCRC), self-installation packages can prove to be very basic and may not offer sufficient protection.

"Purchasing security systems can be challenging," he explains, adding firms choosing to handle security by themselves should only do so if they have "a good level of knowledge and experience" in this area.

Mr Platts claims professionally-installed, business grade solutions tend to provide better levels of reliability and can prevent firms from carrying out what may be "a costly and wasteful exercise" by selecting and fitting their own package.

The BCRC offers advice and information to businesses based in the north-east of England about ways in which they can reduce crime and protect their operations better.

Guidance provided by the organization covers physical safeguards, as well as online security and electronic fraud.
