The new police crime map is a valuable resource for businesses that are looking to assess the risk of moving to a new location, one security expert has stated.
Pauline Norstrom, CCTV section chairman at the British Security Industry Association, noted that while many firms will already be aware of the crime levels in their existing area, the website will be useful in assisting companies that intend to relocate.
"It could … be valuable in helping inform business owners about the type of crime they could be facing, therefore assisting them when shaping their security strategy," she remarked.
Ms Norstrom said companies that are not moving should have "the relevant security measures in place" at the current locations, in order to minimise the risk of being affected by crime.
Earlier this month, Tom Reeve of Securitynewsdesk.com noted CCTV technology can have security, health and safety and marketing benefits for firms and is an "invaluable addition" to an enterprise's security.
