A memory stick containing sensitive material supposedly relating to criminal histories of violent patients, as well as staff details at Bellsdyke Hospital's Tryst Park has been found in a supermarket car park.
A 12-year-old boy made the discovery outside the Asda in Stenhousemuir, the Daily Record reports.
It is now being returned to NHS Forth Valley but a spokeswoman for the trust confirmed that an employee has been suspended as a result.
"We have clear policies in place on the safe use of portable data devices," she remarked.
And a representative of the Scottish government noted that stronger regulations had been enforced for health boards a year and a half ago, clarifying that personal information should not be kept on laptops or unencrypted dongles.
This comes after a scheme to identify future data security professionals was established in order to provide such people with support and training to develop talents and meet the growing demand for experts.
