International bodies collaborate on combating cyber crime

08 July 2011

Companies, law enforcement agencies and governments have launched the International Cyber Security Protection Alliance (ICSPA) in a bid to tackle internet crime.

The collaboration, chaired by former UK Home Secretary David Blunkett, is intended to coordinate global efforts to combat the problem and the organizations involved have called for a more concerted approach to the growing threat in this area.

Efforts by the ICSPA will concentrate on disrupting the activities of web criminals by providing greater support to law enforcement agencies in those nations with high incidents of cybercrime or which may be acting as hosts for hackers.

The new body was launched in London and was welcomed by British Prime Minister David Cameron, who said: "The very nature of this threat calls for more than a national response; it demands a truly global response."

The ICSPA has revealed it has formed a new strategic partnership with European law enforcement body Europol in order to work together against cybercrime across the 27 member states in areas such as information sharing and harmonizing training.
