20 May 2009
BSI’s 4th annual BCM conference was held on 12-14 May 2009 at 1 Whitehall Place, London. This year’s focus was on how improved business continuity management (BCM) can help businesses survive in the current economic climate.
The 2009 conference programme featured streamed sessions for the first time; relevant to individual sectors and industries. They provided delegates with more targeted learning, enhanced sharing of expertise and greater networking opportunities. The new format was well received by conference delegates. Presentations for two of the streamed sessions, Business continuity in the current economic environment and BCM and critical infrastructure, are available at www.bsigroup.com/bcmpresentations.
Speakers included representatives from the Business Continuity Institute, Deloitte LLP and Aon. Case studies were presented by the Department of Health, West Sussex County Council and BAA Glasgow Airport.
Two workshops of differing levels of expertise were held this year - to reflect the increasing skills of some BCM managers and, in contrast, the rising numbers of organizations just beginning BCM planning and implementation.
Delegates came from both the public and private sectors and from a range of industries. The varied job titles of delegates revealed the extent to which BCM has become a company-wide responsibility, relevant to marketing, sales, product development and supplier liaison, in addition to ICT, quality and risk and emergency planning.
