Firms 'should ensure data security systems are up to date'

08 April 2011

Companies have been advised that it is important to ensure their data security packages are effective.

Managing Director of Get Safe Online, Tony Neate, explained firms should be aware of the importance of investing in such protections.

He explained that putting safeguards in place is not about ensuring the image of the business is not damaged, but about keeping personal and financial details secure.

"The key thing for any business that deals with their website is to update and have the right security on their server," Mr Neate stated.

Websense Security Labs has issued a warning about a new malicious mass-injection threat it has discovered. The attack has been dubbed LizaMoon and operates by exploiting security loopholes in other sites.

The Information Commissioner's Office, which is responsible for ensuring firms and individuals comply with the Data Protection Act, can issue fines for the worst breaches it finds of up to £500,000.
