The British Red Cross has been running the Disaster Response Challenge since 2004. The next Disaster Response Challenge will take place 11-13 September 2009 in Bramley, Hampshire, UK. Together with other engaged participant you will practice disaster management built around a hypothetical disaster that unfolds in real time over a two-day period. This event is a good chance to test and expand your crisis management skills, while also helping Red Cross fundraising. You will experience the issues and decisions faced by the British Red Cross international emergency response unit (ERU).
The trainers will show you what is involved in representing the world’s largest humanitarian organisation in the immediate aftermath of major disasters around the world. To do this you will learn from delegates with years of experience in the field – something that only a handful of people get to experience in a lifetime.
The ERU’s role is to respond as quickly as possible to a humanitarian disaster whenever and wherever in the world it may occur. If you think this is a field you would like to work in and want to find out more about what’s involved, or you simply want to do something different for a weekend and support the work of the Red Cross, you will get a lot out of this challenge.
