Data security 'can be improved with more training'

15 March 2010

Data security can be improved with more training, according to a security expert. Luis Corrons of Panda Security, a provider of cloud-based security solutions, believes that even simple training with staff can reap the benefits in avoiding attacks on IT infrastructure.

Mr Corrons highlights the example of a Japanese company which simply exposed its employees to a fake email attack to demonstrate the sort of threat that the company may face.

The Technical Director for Panda Security noted that repeating the experiment six months later proved the employees had a much greater appreciation of what a potential security breach may look like. Mr Corrons said: "A Japanese colleague [of mine] was doing some training with some public companies in Tokyo and the results were really good because they were not taking a lot of time from the users."

On March 3rd, Panda Security revealed information about the Mariposa botnet, that was designed to steal information from infected computers. Panda estimated that 13 million computers had become infected.
