Companies may not be implementing ICT risk strategies

10 May 2010

A new survey has shown that a majority of UK firms do not have data loss protection (DLP) schemes and good information governance in place.

Conducted by management software producer CA, the report revealed that 64 per cent of British businesses are putting their reputation at risk and failing to meet compliance standards by leaving any stored information unsecure.

This figure is compared to other European countries' scores – only 23 per cent of French firms have failed to ensure their data is safe, while 50 per cent of Irish and 60 per cent of Italian companies are also at risk.

Simon Godfrey, Director of Information Security, Risk and Compliance at CA, said: "The survey findings provide clear and timely evidence that UK organisations require DLP technology in order to effectively support their compliance requirements, protect their brand value, and maximize competitiveness."

Robert O'Brien, Director at data protection software business Baronscourt Technologies, recently claimed that proving compliance with information security regulations is increasingly falling to companies in the UK rather than official bodies.
