Cloud 'could enhance business continuity'

23 September 2010

Employing cloud computing solutions could assist businesses in managing disruptions to their operations better, it has been claimed.

According to ThinkGrid Chief Executive, Rob Lovell, those companies with flexible IT systems are the ones that are least affected by issues such as public transport stoppages.

His remarks follow the first of a series of 24-hour strikes by London Underground employees in the capital, which caused disruption to firms whose workers are reliant on the network.

A further walkout by Tube staff is planned on October 3rd and is expected to affect millions of employees and Mr Lovell stated: "Probably most companies with ten staff or above are going to experience either disruption or people not being able to make it in."

He explained that the features and services offered by cloud computing can help in such circumstances, as it provides access to data remotely and is often cheaper to run than storage premises.

The RMT transport union balloted members on industrial action across London Underground over proposed jobs cuts and security.
