A new campaign has been launched by London Fire Brigade and Leonard Cheshire Disability in a bid to enhance safety.
The two organizations have signed a formal agreement to work together in order to target people most at risk of being injured in blazes.
A trial of the scheme has been run by the bodies in Wandsworth and it is now being rolled out to the rest of the city in order to provide safety advice and information to disabled people and their carers and raise awareness among firefighters of the particular risks they face.
"Firefighters will hopefully gain valuable insight into some of the challenges faced by disabled people, which will in turn help us improve the service we offer," Ron Dobson, the London Fire Commissioner, said.
Smoke alarms are recommended by the Fire Service, as they can alert people to toxic smoke, which can render people unconscious within two or three breaths.
