Disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BC) issues are more important than ever following a power outage in Dublin and the riots in England.
This is according to Node4, which has pointed to the disruptions caused by the energy loss in Ireland to a number of data centres as evidence of the need for businesses to develop strategies in these areas.
Andrew Gilbert, the organization's Managing Director, said that remote working and the cloud offer significant benefits to businesses in terms of reducing downtime in the event of crises.
Because of vulnerabilities in the systems highlighted by both events, he explained: "In these troubled times a DR and BC strategy is fast becoming a necessity rather than a luxury."
Mr Gilbert added that in the current economic climate, it is more important than ever for businesses to keep operating and for IT systems to continue working.
The UK riots started in Tottenham and spread across London and on to other parts of England, including Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Manchester, with businesses and homes damaged and looted.
