11 November 2009 - 12 November 2009
Set against the backdrop of ongoing economic turmoil and concerns over an influenza pandemic, the BCI has announced the programme for the BCM World Conference and Exhibition, which will be held in London on 11-12 November 2009. Leaders in Business Continuity Management (BCM) will gather to chart a course to a more resilient economy and society in times of increasing uncertainty. The conference has attracted an unrivalled line-up of contributors and organisations from around the globe.
Plenary sessions will feature authoritative speakers such as Sheana Tambourgi, a director at the influential World Economic Forum, speaking on global risks and Mike Bowron, Commissioner of the City of London Police and ACPO’s business continuity champion for the police force in England and Wales.
International organisations including Nokia, Marsh, SunGard, PwC, BSI Group, ICICI Bank, WestLB AG and the European Commission have provided speakers for the event travelling from Asia, Australia, Europe, Middle East and North America.
Key business continuity themes to be covered at the conference include global standards, pandemic planning, global supply chain management, global risk management and corporate governance. The conference will also provide an opportunity for those new to Business Continuity Management to understand the methodology and its application through a series of sessions with experienced practitioners and leading industry players over the two days.
Lorraine Darke, Executive Director at the Business Continuity Institute, commented: “The conference tackles some tough challenges faced by organisations around the world from dealing with the impact of the economic recession through to preparing to deal with the impact of a global influenza pandemic. The international representation underscores the growing appeal of Business Continuity Management as a method to deliver both organisational and a broader economic resilience. Veterans and newcomers to BCM alike will gain tremendous benefit from participating in this event.”
British Standards Institution (BSI) is confident that the BCM World Conference and Exhibition can more than fill the gap left by the cancellation of BC Expo. BSI will have a strong presence at the exhibition and conference. BSI's Global Marketing Manager, Paul Lanham adds "We trust that many other organizations will join BSI at this important event and support the BCI and the BCM industry. It's particularly vital at this time that BCM should be firmly on the agenda for all organizations; BCM can help build confidence in today's uncertain markets. The BCI exhibition and conference provides an opportunity for organizations to get together and showcase the latest BCM developments and solutions. For example for BSI, the conference provides the perfect platform to highlight BS 25999, the internationally recognized best practice standard for BCM".
